It followed me home...can I keep it?

Way way back in like, November, I started talking to the good folks at my regular gun shop about a pistol I wanted. I'd handled it back at the NRA Annual Meeting and absolutely loved it. Well, over the span of a few months they looked...and looked...and looked...and couldn't find it. The owner apologized and said he had no way of sourcing one, and encouraged me to look elsewhere for it. Said he'd applaud me if I could locate one. So in January I started talking to the folks at my range, who said they'd see what they could do for me.

In early February, I got a call from them about something they were able to locate. Wanted me to come in, check it out, and tell them whether I was happy with that option. Turns out it wasn't *exactly* what I wanted, but that was OK...what they found was, in fact, a bit better. So, I put it on layaway.

Do you have any idea how annoying it is to have to put a new pistol in a new-to-me caliber on layaway? I wanted to bring it home and love it and hug it and squeeze it and call it George. But no, I had to wait.

And wait.

AND WAIT.

...Until about a week ago, when my tax return *finally* posted. Naturally, I toddled my way down there after work that Thursday to pay off the remainder and get the paperwork started. And today, I got to bring it home.

In case the picture didn't work, that right thar is a CZ P-01. From everything I've read and seen, it's basically an upgraded 75 Compact. I shot a box through it last week, and I'm thoroughly pleased with it. Thanks to the weight, 9mm isn't as snappy as I was expecting. Trigger is a typical DA/SA, with a long pull for the first shot. Chris complained about it but I'm used to it and comfortable with it thanks to the years I've owned the Bersa. 9mm will take a little getting used to, but that's only because I haven't had a lot of experience with the caliber. Give me a month...lol.

I'll have a more thorough range report soon. As it is, I have to learn how to take this thing apart for cleaning before I take it out again... The box I shot through it last week was pretty dirty stuff.

So...my buy-a-gun day came early. Woo!

Shiny! Oh you are a better shopper than me - AND it needs a nice holster (stingray)!!

Good Job! But I'm really surprised that Americans never have made the CZ-75 system as popular as it should be. Even Col. Cooper liked it, he just wished it came in .45ACP. Don't know how many Companies have cloned it, but it just doesn't seem to "Fly off the Shelves." Any way, just get a lot of Magazines and Ammo and practice your Zombie Head Shots....

Congrats, and your point is well taken about the trigger and your 'familiarity' with the long pull! Enjoy!

By coincidence I just got the CZ P-07 cousin of your gun this last week. I hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

Nice looking heater.

That's a decocker model yes?

I've always liked the CZs. And I always put them back because I can't find a compact model with a single action style safety which I how I would, personally, like to try one. Decockers only. One reason I suspect they aren't more popular here in the states.

Keads - LOVE it. Chris took it to the range last night and was raving, too. :)

Alan - :D

Julie - thanks!

DirtCrashr - holster will come. don't have cash for it right now.

Les - I don't get it, either. It's a great gun! More magazines will happen when I have the money for it.

NFO - Chris complained about it again last night, but I think he's spoiled with his XDM trigger. :P I'm perfectly happy with it - I'd rather have a longer pull for a carry pistol, anyway.

Odysseus - LOVE. IT. Congrats on your purchase, as well. :D

Cemetery - Thankee, sir. :D

Michael - Thanks, and I'm glad someone caught it. :)

aczarnowski - Yep, decocker model. If I may ask, why is that stopping you from picking one up?

Which one was the one you really wanted, if you don't mind my asking?

I have had a P-01 for a few years, now, and really like it.

George Hill, The Mad Ogre, reviewed them for Concealed Carry Magazine a few years ago, and really liked it. Carried it for a while as well. link to his article.

aczarnowski: The regular CZ-75 Compact (NOT the "D PCR") is traditional safety, not decocker: link.

freddyboomboom, I originally wanted a regular 75 Compact. No one could get it (seems they're not shipping them to the US right now), but I'm pretty happy I compromised. I feel I got a better pistol.
