Failing at market research: example!

This came in the mail yesterday, and it was addressed to me...not Resident. Chris didn't get one, so I can only guess I'm on a mailing list that he isn't on. While I appreciate their desire to support charities, I really don't think they're going to do terribly well in their campaign...unless, of course, their campaign is limited to making me laugh hysterically every time I read this thing.

Anyway, presented without further comment:

(apologies on the quality, the scanner I used is NOT the best...click both to embiggenate)

"Dear Fellow Progressive"...? ROFLMAO! Pretty presumptive of them, in their small-powered brain they don't imagine anyone can be anything else.

LOL- Did steam come out of your ears??? :-)

Michael - Seriously. I'm neither a progressive nor a tea partier. They should have done more research before sending these out willy-nilly.

DirtCrashr - INDEED, sir.

NFO - Nah, I was too busy laughing at it to get angry.

Laura, How is it you got on a Progressive mailing list? Does Chris know about this? LOL

She's in Maryland, they assume everyone is a "progressive."

Hell, Im not a progressive or Tea Partier either, though if you asked a "progressive" they'd categorize me as "bat-shit crazy to the far right of the Tea Partiers."

CREDO gets its names from people who sign CREDO petitions, so while you may not be a progressive, there was no "market research" involved; you signed a CREDO petition and therefore opted in to their marketing.

But of course people are quick to ascribe the concept of "fail" to anything they don't understand these days.

Funny thing about that...I don't sign petitions. Please try again. :)

Is you're phone service through AT&T or Verizon?

I also noticed that they advertise selling the Optimus S which is interesting because that is a Sprint network only phone and we don't have any kind of arraignment with this company.

Well, it looks like the media has successfully re-branded the Tea Party.

Seeing as how all it means is being in favor of reduced government spending and lower taxes, and I'm pretty sure those are things you're down with, right?

Instinct - ATT. I guess that might be where they got my information? Seems a little far-fetched, though, since Chris didn't get it.

Tam - I can't even say with certainty what any party stands for anymore ('tis why I'm not registered with any affiliation).

That's the other thing the media has successfully done: Made it sound like there's a Thing called "The Tea Party". A Thing that has platforms and positions, something you have to register for. They don't get that "there's no 'there' there."

Want the government to live within its means? Want the Democrats and Republicans to stop peeing away so much money, more than we'll ever take in?

Congrats, you're a Tea Partier.

Anything other than that is just some politician or newsreader who doesn't Get It.

And that goes right back to why I hate trying to follow politics. Newsbots almost always get it wrong, and half the time so do the supporters of what they think this or that party stands for. That's what kills me - why can't anyone get it right?

Because they don't want to get it right. They have a vested interest in obfuscation, in keeping the masses dumb and satiated so they can feed em whatever bullshit talking point they feel like pushing at the moment.

You mean a Liberal is LYING?
Color me shocked!

That's almost enough to make me rethink my VOIP so ATT can get $75/mo again.....
Nahhh
