Some folks seem to be questioning why Maryland SB281 is so problematic for people who are legal gun owners or want to be a legal gun owner in Maryland.

So here are some key parts of the bill that's headed to the governor to be signed into law.

The parts of the bill that dealt with punishments for those who break the law have been gutted, so this isn't even useful legislation. Governor O'Malley and his cronies DO NOT want us here. I hope they're ready to lose a crap-ton in tax revenue from Beretta, because it's likely they're packing up their stuff and moving elsewhere. Way to go.

Just confirms I'm now going to have to drive AROUND MD, just like I drive around the District... sigh

I have a friend that lives in MD, and he said, "I'll just buy my guns on the street. They are a LOT cheaper and I don't have to wait to take it home."

Yes, he knows that the odds are good they may have been used in a crime, or have been stolen, but when you make it too difficult to get things legally, that is where a thriving underground economy steps in to fill the void. MD just exceeded his tolerance for "bullshit"...

And as he put it, having a gun that was used in a crime is the best "plant" if you shoot someone, since in MD they will try to charge you for defending yourself. Can't really argue with the man... Of course, that is what you have to think about when the criminals are the ones with the rights, and law abiding citizens are penalized - you might as well become a criminal and enjoy...
