This gym thing is kicking my posterior.

Since you were supportive, I figured I'd share an update.

I joined a cheapy gym and set up a personal training routine with one of their trainers.  We're doing a "consultation" plan, which means we meet once a month, then he writes out what I'm supposed to do the rest of the month, and he'll change it up as we go.  Our first session was basically Crossfit and I lasted all of 7 minutes before I nearly revisited lunch.

He's convinced he'll carve 60 lbs of fat off me in a year, and he intends to put 10 lbs of muscle on me in that time.  We'll see if that happens.

Remember, one day and one step at a time... And 60lbs in a year is reasonable! you just have to keep at it!

Better then gym than all of IRC.

You DID tell us to harass you...

NFO: is it, really? i'm scared of the plateau problem...the trainers seem to know what they're doing, though, so maybe they'll get me past them.

Alan: since i'll be back in IRC once my internet connection is reliable again, i'll expect the harassment. i asked for it for a reason.

So you're heinie's getting kicked eh? That'll leave a mark :P

Since you asked, I'll be sure to bust your ass about it next week.

He'll probably switch up exercises as needed, which should help keep you from plateauing somewhat.

Mike W is right. Plateauing usually happens from doing the same stuff over and over for too long. If you change it up at least every few months you won't have that problem.

And if you decide to go in for protein shakes to help with the muscle growth, go for 'Muscle Milk' it's the only one I have found that doesn't taste like old gym socks.

As for me, I still have about 40 to go. Measurements have been going the right way (arms bigger, waist smaller) but the scale so far has stayed the same. Ah well, at least there is progress

You're doing great! Keep it up!

FYI - Muscle Milk is good stuff, but crazy expensive compared to the powdered stuff. Powdered protein shakes aren't bad if you buy the right stuff. I have at least two everyday.

Mike - yeah, he mentioned intervals and crossfit, so I'm sure he'll mix it up a bit.

Instinct - my former roommate had me try Muscle Milk awhile back, and it was pretty tasty. He usually buys Cookies & Cream in the big jugs, so I used to snake a little here and there. It's been years, though. Good for you on your losses, even if they haven't shown up at the scale. :)

Chris - I'm tryin...

Mike - the DRY Muscle Milk is a lot cheaper than the shakes and it tastes better. I know you have at least two a day - I shared a hotel room with you, remember? :P

Marty - None right now - I'm not pleased with being obese, and really don't like seeing photos of myself anywhere. Maybe I'll post some when I get skinny again.

Ok - just found your blog - first time reader and I'm already jumping in. Keep at it, girl! I've lost 60 pounds "the old-fashioned" way...no lapbands or surgery. I'm 52, so getting my hormones in order was first (that took the first 6 months), then I hit the gym - hard. After a few months at the gym, I started watching what I ate. I'm a little more than 1/2 way there. I took out a pix from 18 months ago...I showed it around and no one knew it was me. You can do it!!
