After conferring with Chris this afternoon, I've decided to pick up a compact 9mm. Problem is, I'm not exactly sure what I want. I know I would like something bigger than my Bersa, but not anything as big as a 92FS. No Glock or Sig - I'm just not a fan of either brand. Chris suggested an M&P, XD, or CZ.

I'd consider polymer though I'm a big fan of all metal.

Also trying to stick to no more than $600.

Given these requirements, what would you buy, and why?

It's more important to be a nice guy.

Several celebrity gossip sites are reporting a story that seems to have come from the National Enquirer about Tom Selleck yelling at an extra on set for improper gun handling. The reports indicate that the extra was carelessly waving and playing with a real gun around the set. Mr. Selleck, who is a gun enthusiast and an NRA board member, screamed at the extra to put it down and get his finger off the trigger. The extra then asked if it was loaded and Mr. Selleck responded to the effect that you should treat all guns as if they're loaded. The story is being unbelievably reported as if Mr. Selleck was in the wrong for getting mad and yelling at the extra, seemingly in an attempt to besmirch his nice guy reputation.

When you act like a child around firearms and create a danger to yourself and those around you, you lose your right to be spoken to like an adult. I applaud Mr. Selleck for his attentiveness and assertiveness, but apparently some in Hollywood don't agree. It's more important to them to be nice and civil even in the face of improper gun handling and potentially dangerous situations. Someone had their feelings hurt, which in today's world seems to be held in higher regard than actual safety. Maybe they have short memories about the list of actors killed by blank cartridges - most famously Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow - or maybe their detachment from reality is so complete hurt feelings are their greatest concern.

I used to love Zappos.  Their overnight service?  FABULOUS.

THIS, however?  This has me thoroughly disappointed.  They've lost my business.  Hopefully, they've lost your business as well.

I'm a little late in posting this, but better late than never!

One of the food-centric blogs I read daily, SeriousEats, posts food-related items that really run the gamut...from animals eating things to people eating gross things, and NOW they're including people killing and eating things most folks wouldn't consider eating.

I'm impressed.  I never would have expected this video to get any sort of attention from SE.  Naturally, comments include some whiners who can't stomach the idea of OMG KILLING and EATING something that was so cute and furry and adorbs, but there are just as many comments supporting the video and asking for more like it.  From what I can tell, more people are becoming interested in their food sources (and in alternative food sources, like skirrel).  This is great not only for our food industry but for hunters and the sport of hunting.

Kudos, SeriousEats.  Keep it up.

Gorgeous weather SHOULD mean range time.

It looks like the local Hackerspace folks decided to take advantage of the sun we've been having today. 

I can't say I blame them...I really need to get my shotgun cleaned up so we can go out.  Maybe next weekend, if the weather sticks around.

Lies are great, especially when liars are caught in the middle of them.

Yesterday, TBolt posted a link of a lying liarpants attempting to testify in the Maryland House Judiciary Committee.

Said liarpants claims to be from Ceasefire Maryland.  Apparently he...isn't.



At least Delegate Smigiel was able to smackify the liar before he got any further into his lies.
