Living in Baltimore, we encounter gang activity from time to time. Trying to decipher the signs they use can be quite confusing, and can lead a person into trouble.

Well, someone has generously created a chart to allow us normal people understand what gang members are trying to say.

It came to my attention that The Miller tagged me in a couple of memes.

First, he apparently has NO taste whatsoever, because he nominated me for the Liebster Blog award.

The rules are as follows:
- Paste the image on our blog.
- Link back to the blogger who gave us the award.
- Pick our five favorite blogs with less than 200 followers, and leave a comment on their blog to let them know they have received the award.
- Hope that the five blogs chosen will keep spreading the love and pass it on to five more blogs.

Because I like breaking molds, my list includes almost no gunblogs. It does, however, include a bunch of people I really like. Their political opinions probably won't agree with yours, so IF you decide to visit their blogs, please be kind.

I was also tagged in the honest gun owners meme:
"I will write down 5 things that indicate, to me, that a gun owner or shooter maybe is an honest one; I say 'maybe' because I have known some seemingly honest gun owners to tell some really tall tales. My list is pretty short:
1 - They immediately disapprove of posed photos in which an individual is fingering the trigger of a firearm. This is pretty indicative of their trigger discipline, particularly if it's an involuntary response. I'm more likely to feel comfortable shooting with this person.
2 - They invite anyone and everyone to fire anything they have at the range with them...and will offer ammo
3 - They will openly share situations where they've made a major error. They will discuss what happened, where they went wrong, and how to avoid it.
4 - They will admit when their shortcomings are causing poor groupings or generally bad targets. They might joke that the sights are off on a particular firearm, or that the recoil is weird, or the ammo isn't "right," but they make it obvious that they're joking.
5 - They're honest about why they like or dislike a particular firearm. They will also admit they can't make a decision because they haven't handled a particular firearm.

Guns on the "want!" list.

Chris and I were discussing Mike's newest acquisitions over the weekend, and we talked about the thing that's still waiting at the store for my tax refund to go through.

Apparently, Chris is convinced that once I purchase said firearm, I won't want any other brand because it's just that good. I refuse to agree. So after we finished that conversation, I started thinking of the guns on my "want" list.

The list is very short, but I feel it's worth mentioning. And nothing on this list is from the same brand as the firearm I'm purchasing.

The Chic Lady. Don't mock me. I like it, and it matches my purse. So there. :P

Beretta PX4 Storm in 9mm.

Beretta CX4 Storm, also in 9mm. I like the idea of interchangeable mags. Still want to shoot TheMiller's, though. AHEM.

Some sort of affordable semiauto shotgun would be sexy. Thinking a Stoeger Model 2000 is a very real possibility.

A non-snubnose .357 revolver. Not sure what brand yet, but I do want something that will stand up to a LOT of range abuse. Something I can upgrade would be neat, too.

A Rossi Ranch Hand in .38/.357 would be neato.

A "Red Nine" Mauser C96. I've always liked'em. Of course, I might have to sell a few organs to afford it, but this IS a "wish" list, after all.

A Vektor CP1. I don't care that this is a ridiculous want, or that it's impossible, and I don't care that these things are incredibly unreliable according to my learnings on the internets. I still dig'em. I think it's the raygun appearance. I feel like it belongs on the set of Galaxy Quest or Wormhole X-Treme.

Oh, I'd also like one of these. They're so damned spendy they might as well sit on this list.

As we began to walk in, a man sitting out front warned us that we were welcome to explore, but nothing inside was for sale. Our interests piqued, we began to browse through the collections the man out front had built throughout his life. This is a story of a man and his home.

This is all I have to say about this year's election.

I don't like any of the ones who will get even close to being in the election in November. All of them are polarizing. None of them really have the people in mind, and none of them warrant my vote.

I'm more moderate than most of you, though. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are extremely important, but so is ensuring all citizens have the SAME rights. This includes gay marriage and abortion. Women and members of the LGBT community are people, too, as much as conservatives seem to insist we aren't. Since the government refuses to get the hell out of our lives, we have to find ways around it...including ensuring rights for all citizens.

This is going to make me a rather unpopular person amongst those of you who are more conservative-leaning. And frankly, I'm done biting my tongue about it. Say whatever you will, I really don't care.

Also, if you're not already following Bent Objects, I think you should. Terry Border's pretty creative. He's also the founder of Strangely Orange Snack Appreciation Day, which is celebrated in June. Yes, he's an oddball, but I think he's one of the best kinds.

Against my better judgement, I watched Doomsday Preppers.

Here's my opinion.

Family 1 - The head of the family covered their in-ground pool and set it up as a greenhouse - they keep tilapia in the deep end, with chickens over it, duckweed covering it (to feed the fish), and they use the greenhouse to grow food. They also keep a pair of goats. Great idea for providing for your family, but if things got to the point where power is not restored, how in the heck does that guy think he's going to protect his family? Now that he's on this show, he's a big dang target. Even with "educating" the neighbors, he'd end up overrun and out of food sooner than later. Smooth, dude. Real smooth. Furthermore, how does he plan on dealing with the inevitable sewage problem? How does he plan on avoiding disease? He didn't really discuss that beyond bagging their waste and "keeping it separate."

Family 2 - Okay, this lady's approaching things a bit differently. Lots of shelf-stable "prep" food. Has currency concerns, recognizes the possibility of an increase of home invasions, takes the kids to the range. Admitting her full name and showing her house on TV kindof destroys the whole point of getting food delivered at night, though.

Family/Group 3 - These guys seem to be the most prepared. Holy damn that's a lot of people to feed, though. It appears they've focused on combining knowledge to cover a range of skillsets. They're also raising cattle and chickens on a farm where they intend to get two families together to protect everybody. They've addressed border security and firearms training. These guys could easily be called exceedingly paranoid.

Family 4 - This guy...yeah. He's got an underground bunker. He's been preparing for nuclear holocaust for years. I don't think I really need to say any more about this guy. I don't recall if they said he's former military, but I get that feeling from watching his segment of the show. I would be concerned about their food choices, though, if their showcase dinner was ramen and mac&cheese. I understand those are shelf-stable foods, but you can't stay healthy on food like that. Still, dude's pretty much ready for anything short of running out of water in a year...and his bunker's out in the middle of Nowhere, Utah, making his cache the hardest to find out of the 4.


I don't think I'd watch more episodes, but it's interesting to see how many average people are really starting to get paranoid.

Things coming down the pipe.

Stuff that has had me preoccupied:
1 - I put something black and shiny on layaway. I'll tell you all what it is when it's in my grubby paws.
2 - We're putting a deposit on something furry and cute. This involves a lot of time spent elsewhere on the internet, doing research, since I've never ventured down this road before. I'll tell you more about *that* in a few weeks.

More women taking the plunge.

I came across this post recently, and I'm tickled pink.

Another post courtesy Michael. One by one, those afraid of firearms are getting over their fears. And they seem to be mostly women. I'm thrilled.

Even Sundance is taking notice of women who hunt. Maybe it's because female hunters are still a novelty, but I welcome positive media, no matter who's talking about it. Watch the video - it's refreshing to hear women sharing their thoughts regarding hunting. And, of course, one of our own is taking the plunge further into self-sufficiency.


*Yes, I'm still lacking in writing creativity. Have other, big things on my mind right now.
